Release of “timeless writing” support software
As mentioned in a previous post, I ran an experiment on how to write and help facilitate writing timeless writing, that is, writing of the sort that when you come back to it a year later, you’ll be glad that you did. While I did use the software, it by and large went underutilized. I got around to using it again after a long period of time of disuse and I’m please to find that it did the job because what I wrote is indeed something that I was glad to see again some year(s) later. Unfortunately, I haven’t cleaned up the code at all, and so it will look slightly better than the obfuscated code that it is based on, however, I thought I should make it available none-the-less, since I’ve (finally) found it to be useful to me.
- The script to actually do the timeless writing: http://www.andrewsw.com/text/calog.txt
- The script to display it to the world: http://www.andrewsw.com/text/calog_public.txt
By going to my timeless writing page, and doing a view-source, you can find the URL to the CSS file used in that, if you want a CSS file.
I’m sorry this isn’t better documented or cleaner code or a more user-friendly download and install, but if I waited until I had all that, I’d probably be waiting at least another year before getting this out to you.
(P. S. A standard Wiki can do the job as well, but you’ll need some slightly funky modifications. I thought this would do fine because of how specialized I’ve made it for the task. Unfortunately, there are some undocumented bugs as well. I guess that gives me some bug fixes to take care of in the upcoming years….)
