Feed publishers, RSS, NNTP
There are costs associated with being an RSS feed publisher. One solution proposed was to use NNTP instead. This got me thinking that a lot of what is being done with RSS is, indeed, stuff that was already done with NNTP. So when I heard about an NNTP to RSS bridge that allowed posting as well, I had to check it out, and then I realized that I could easily use tools like Thoth to post, and similarly use already existing NNTP libraries instead of using blogging APIs and stuff like that, and then I realized - it would probably just be one more thing to debug/consider when something went wrong. But I figured I’d blog the idea anyway. I’d really be into it if I was a heavy USENET newsgroup reader right now, but I’m not. But if ever I do have occasion to use NNTP extensively (such as perhaps in conjunction with SourceForge’s NNTP service), I’ll revisit this idea and consider it then.
