186 Science Fiction and Fantasy I: Major Works of Fantasy for Children
I went to a sci-fi for children session. I was so busy finishing off breakfast, I missed the reading of the first paper in the session - this one was on the book A Wrinkle In Time, a book I have regretfully not yet gotten around to reading..
Also there was a paper on Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Then there was a paper about Lois Lowry’s The Giver - and how this related to her own life and notions of adolescents as agents of change.
I found it to be an interesting “critique” of ethnocentricity and prejudice based on difference - and difference as bad in a world in which society encourages equality through sameness.
There was another children’s book referenced - Ozma of Oz about which I am wholeheartedly unable to offer any comments due to my lack of knowledge of the subject matter.
Interesting information about difference/sameness in the discussion.
A friday night party was announced.
This was where I first saw the AlienWoman shirt on the female author thereof.
