When Safety Battles Safety
As the time approaches, I’ll ask appropriate people about this in more detail, so the concern that begot this isn’t the concern that I want you to be concerned with now.
I was at The MSU Travel Clinic and they helped me get the necessary shots, etc… for my upcoming overseas trip. They also told me to make it a point to get some 30% DEET solution to use to prevent contamination from disease-bearing insects.
Sounds good and dandy, right? So then I start to wonder - DEET comes in aerosol cans, and those are prohibited on airlines now in this post-9/11 world, right? Yes, they’re prohibited on both carry-on and checked luggage.
I’m just trying to keep myself safe and healthy but in doing so I pose a security risk but somehow I think that if I brought certain diseases back to the U. S. that it would pose even more of a security risk, don’t you?
So, when safety concerns compete against safety concerns, you realize that there aren’t enough people looking at the big picture.
That much said, I trust the folks I’ll be with when overseas to know the proper precautions for preventing issues with disease-bearing insects.
