I was playing the game jinx with some friends and someone said the same thing as I and then said "jinx" and so I had to be quiet until my name was said.

The two other people there discussed amongst themselves whether or not to say my name. Eventually they decided to flip a coin. Which side should be the one to signify that they should say my name? The edge would be the side that would grant me "freedom" from having to be quiet.

I imagine that an ordinary person would say "no way that's going to happen" and give up. But a peace came over me and I just had a sense that everything would work out alright and that the coin would land that way.

They flipped the coin. I had this sudden impulse to pound a fist against the table. It caused the coin to bounce up into the air and then come down on a chair. It came down between the cushioning in the chair and the wood trim at the side. It came down on it's edge and stayed that way.

They looked at each other and decided they'd better say my name, so they did.
